The Contra Costa County Public Works Agency has selected BKF Engineers to design the San Pablo Avenue Complete Streets/Bay Trail Gap Closure Project, a 3.2-mile segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail between Rodeo and Crockett. The project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure along San Pablo Avenue, improving safety and connectivity.

The design features a new shared-use path from California Street in Rodeo to the Carquinez Bridge pathway in Crockett, achieved by reconfiguring the westbound lane of San Pablo Avenue. Additional improvements include intersection safety upgrades, Class II bike lanes, sidewalk gap closures, upgraded bus stops, new street lighting along the shared-use path, and a C.3 bioretention facility for stormwater management. With a population of over 32,000 community members spread throughout the area surrounding the project site, this complete streets project will have a positive and widespread impact on infrastructure, benefitting the community as a whole. BKF Engineers transportation department has a great amount of experience in complete streets projects of varying complexity and is excited to work alongside Contra Costa County on this opportunity.
