BKF Engineers is supporting the City of Sausalito with planning, public engagement, and design services for improvements to the landside plaza at the Sausalito Ferry Terminal. The project aims to increase the size and improve circulation patterns at this busy terminal while coordinating landside enhancements with future waterside improvements led by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District (GGBHTD). The project includes expanding the concrete plaza area, reconfiguring the existing parking lot, installing a new electrical generator for planned waterside improvements, and adding new plantings, furnishings, and wayfinding signage. Working closely with the City of Sausalito, GGBHTD, and local stakeholders, BKF is creating a functional and visually appealing plaza that serves as a vital access point for residents, commuters, and tourists. The design addresses challenges such as bicycle staging and transportation flow while incorporating public input throughout the process. The project’s goal is to enhance the gateway from the Bay to Sausalito, improving the experience for all users and ensuring seamless connections between transportation modes. The project also requires close coordination with the GGBHTD, permitting through BCDC, and managing abundant public interest and feedback.
