Jon Shattuck’s journey to becoming BKF’s Business Sector Leader for Land Surveying was anything but traditional. Starting as an engineer, he found himself immersed in surveying, which quickly became a career. A Fresno native, Jon treated college like a trade school, working while earning dual degrees from California State, Fresno. His love for problem-solving and building things, including Lego creations that he still enjoys today with his son, has driven his career.
For Jon, the most rewarding part of his work isn’t just the projects themselves—it’s the people. He believes great teams create great outcomes, and leading a strong, trusted group is what makes every project a success. Time is one of the biggest challenges in his fast-paced role, but he’s learned the power of saying no to protect both the quality of work and his time with family.
Among the many projects he’s contributed to, the Thunder Valley Venue Project stands out as a career highlight. The concert venue was a project he was deeply involved in from the start. Now, visiting it with family and seeing others enjoy the space fills him with pride.
Throughout his career, Jon has had incredible mentors at BKF, both in the Sacramento office and company-wide, who have championed his growth. He credits much of his success to the leadership that supported him along the way—and to his wife, Liz, who keeps him grounded.
From surveying major projects across California to balancing work and family, Jon’s career is a testament to hard work, trust, and the impact of a great team.
