BKF Engineers (BKF), a recognized leader in civil engineering and flood control design, is proud to announce its selection by the San Bernardino County Flood Control District (District) to lead the design of the Bandicoot Basin project. This vital infrastructure initiative will enhance flood protection and stormwater management in the region.
The District operates and maintains over 3,000 flood control facilities, including channels, basins, storm drains, dams, and levees. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve water management and mitigate flood risks, the District has engaged BKF to provide comprehensive design services for Bandicoot Basin.
The project will address key design elements and critical challenges, including:
- Detailed Sediment Yield Analysis – Ensuring the basin’s efficiency in sediment capture and flood mitigation.
- Refined Hydrologic Analyses – Conducting advanced modeling to optimize stormwater management.
- DSOD Permit Processing – Coordinating with the California Division of Safety of Dams (DSOD) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Design Project Approach
The design process will be executed in multiple phases, beginning with preliminary design and baseline studies. This initial phase will include:
- Comprehensive alternatives analysis for selecting the optimal design solution.
- Geotechnical investigations to assess soil conditions and structural integrity.
- Utility research to identify potential conflicts and necessary relocations.
- Evaluation of upstream and downstream drainage facility conditions to ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
