Yerba Buena Slope Repair

Details

Client
Ventura County

Overview

Storm events caused slope failures at four locations along Yerba Buena Road, compromising the embankment that supports the roadway. Little Sycamore Creek runs along the toe of the embankment, increasing the risk of ongoing erosion and instability.

A geotechnical report was already completed through a previous County procurement. BKF developed a more cost-effective yet nuanced solution to the repairs, which included a combination of soldier-pile walls and gabion-basket mechanically stabilized embankments. BKF worked with the geotechnical engineer to amend their recommendations to accommodate the updated design.

Stabilization and erosion-control measures were designed and specified within the limits of each site to protect Yerba Buena Road from future storm damage. BKF provided professional civil engineering services to deliver the slope stabilization and road reconstruction design, permitting support, and construction-ready documentation.
