Overview

The Willard Clubhouse LEED Gold project is located in Willard Park at 2720 Hillegass Avenue, between Derby Street and Stuart Street, in Berkeley, California. This 3,300-square-foot, one-story community facility supports the City of Berkeley’s after-school and summer day camp programs, serving local families with a welcoming and functional space.

The project included comprehensive interior and exterior upgrades designed to create a modern, accessible, and contemporary environment aligned with the mission of the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department. Improvements focused on enhancing usability, accessibility, and long-term sustainability while maintaining the clubhouse’s role as a vital neighborhood resource.

BKF, working in collaboration with ELS Architecture and Urban Design, provided civil engineering services for the project. Scope of work included utility research, survey review, grading design, and utility coordination. These services supported the successful integration of sustainability goals and site functionality.

The Willard Clubhouse LEED Gold project incorporated Zero Net Energy strategies, Universal Design principles, and Deep Green initiatives, reinforcing Berkeley’s commitment to environmental responsibility and social equity. A robust and inclusive community engagement process guided the conceptual design phase, ensuring the final design reflected the needs and values of the surrounding community.
