West Grand Avenue Streetscape

Overview

BKF provided comprehensive design services for the West Grand Avenue Streetscape. This project was part of a major effort to revitalize the West Grand Avenue corridor between 4th and 8th Streets in the City of Grover Beach. The project was developed in alignment with the City’s 2011 West Grand Avenue Master Plan and was carefully tailored to meet long-term community goals focused on beautification, improved safety, increased accessibility, and sustainable pavement management.

The scope of work included the extension of a storm drain main spanning more than 2,100 feet, as well as full-depth reclamation (FDR) to completely reconstruct the existing pavement structure. These foundational improvements were accompanied by the addition of new center medians and significant landscape enhancements designed to create a more inviting and pedestrian-friendly environment. BKF also redesigned intersections and crossings to include ADA-compliant curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, bulb-outs to reduce crossing distances, and pedestrian beacons to improve overall safety and walkability throughout the corridor.

To further enhance the corridor, BKF incorporated decorative street lighting and streetscape furnishings, including custom benches and trash receptacles, adding visual appeal and comfort for pedestrians. Throughout the project, the BKF team applied a robust quality assurance and quality control process to ensure the design not only met the City’s goals but also maintained long-term functionality and durability.

The West Grand Avenue Streetscape project represents a significant investment in Grover Beach’s infrastructure and urban identity. The City celebrated a key milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony in April 2024, marking the beginning of a project that will serve residents, visitors, and local businesses for years to come.
