BKF provided civil engineering services to support the rehabilitation of the Santa Rosa Creek Diversion Vortex Tube, a key component of the regional flood control system originally constructed in the early 1960s. The existing facility includes a 96‑inch reinforced concrete pipe culvert and a cast‑in‑place transition structure located beneath Montgomery Drive. The Sonoma County Water Agency retained BKF to evaluate alternatives for rehabilitating the aging vortex tube and to assess trenchless options for installing a new bypass pipe to support long‑term maintenance needs.
BKF’s work included the rehabilitation of 112 linear feet of 96‑inch RCP using fiber‑reinforced concrete and mortar, replacement of the transition structure, and the design of a 36‑inch steel bypass line installed beneath Montgomery Drive via auger bore. BKF prepared full contract documents for the preferred rehabilitation alternatives and provided design support throughout construction, ensuring the upgraded system meets performance, safety, and durability requirements for decades to come.
