Through a Strategic Implementation Plan, the University of Utah is revamping the Research Park into a new innovation district integrating both residential and commercial uses. Site upgrades include rerouting of several major roadway corridors, implementing a gridded street network, creek daylighting and restoration, and opportunities for TRAX expansion into the district. BKF supported the planning efforts with utility stakeholder outreach and civil engineering technical support.
BKF initially prepared background studies that assessed the condition of the existing infrastructure to serve the district. After the initial planning, BKF helped develop strategies for the roadway and utility corridor realignments and analyzed the utility improvements needed to serve the buildout of the Research Park. These included district-scaled water and wastewater reuse assessments, stormwater management, and phasing of the improvements. Rough order of magnitude cost estimates supported the phasing and implementation strategies.
