BKF’s Land Survey Department provided full-service construction staking and surveying for the UC San Diego (UCSD) Pepper Canyon West Housing project, a transformative student housing development in San Diego, California. The project features two high-rise residential towers, mid-rise buildings, and comprehensive site improvements.
BKF’s scope of work included establishing durable project control points, staking for demolition and grading limits, and certifying graded building pads. Our team performed precise layout services for critical infrastructure such as electrical equipment pads, retaining walls, tower crane footings, and man hoist pads. We also provided grid line staking for structural foundations and underground utility systems—including storm drains, water, sewer, gas, power, and communication lines—as well as curb, gutter, paving, and all hardscape and landscape features. To support construction accuracy, BKF conducted high-definition floor flatness surveys and implemented rigorous QA/QC procedures for horizontal and vertical control across multiple building levels.
With UC San Diego Pepper Canyon West, BKF helped bring to life one of UCSD’s largest and most impactful student housing developments, showcasing our expertise in construction staking, surveying for utilities, and complex site layout in urban, high-density environments.
