BKF provided civil engineering design services for the feasibility study and design phases of the Orange County Gateway Program’s grade separation project. This effort required extensive coordination with the Cities of Anaheim and Placentia, the Orange County Transportation Authority, and BNSF Railway to develop a grade‑separation solution that improved mobility and safety along a major regional corridor. The design accommodates two six‑lane roadways that span over both the railway and an adjacent flood control channel, helping to reduce traffic delays, enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety, and mitigate noise associated with rail operations.
BKF’s scope included evaluating and planning complex utility relocations involving nine separate utility owners, preparing detailed traffic‑handling and staged‑construction plans, ensuring ADA‑compliant infrastructure, and designing temporary detour roads to maintain traffic capacity throughout construction. The team’s work supported the program’s overarching goals of improving travel efficiency and enhancing multimodal safety across the corridor.
