BKF provided civil engineering site design for Sutter Health CPMC’s Mission Bernal Hospital in San Francisco, supporting the development of a new seven‑story, 120‑bed facility. The project included extensive street improvements along Cesar Chavez and San Jose Avenue, along with the relocation of 950 linear feet of a 24‑inch water main to accommodate the new hospital infrastructure. BKF coordinated design efforts around major utilities, including a six‑foot sewer culvert and high‑voltage electrical lines, ensuring that construction progressed safely and efficiently within the dense urban setting.
As part of the hospital’s sustainability and resiliency goals, BKF designed a stormwater retention system that captures and reuses rainwater on site. The team also assisted in coordinating design efforts with the concurrent Cesar Chavez streetscape project, ensuring compatibility between public infrastructure upgrades and the hospital’s long‑term operational needs.
