BKF provided civil engineering services for the SR 4 (East) widening project, which expanded the corridor from a four‑lane freeway to an eight‑lane facility between Contra Loma Boulevard and G Street. This major infrastructure improvement supported increased regional capacity, enhanced mobility, and improved long‑term traffic operations.
As part of the design team, BKF delivered supplemental PR and PS&E services, environmental revalidation, and feasibility evaluations for geometric alternatives. The project incorporated a future BART median, reconstructed interchanges and local streets, and included new and modified traffic signals to support safer, more efficient operations. BKF also developed multi‑phased staging plans to maintain traffic flow during construction, addressed environmentally sensitive areas and right‑of‑way requirements, and supported extensive community outreach to help build consensus throughout project development.
