The Soquel Drive Buffered Bike Lanes Project involved multi-modal transportation improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, vehicles, and bus transit, along the Soquel Avenue/Drive corridor in the County of Santa Cruz, from the State Park Drive intersection to the La Fonda Avenue intersection, approximately 5.6 miles in one direction.
Project improvements included resurfacing the roadway using rubberized cape seal for 5.6 miles, with striping improvements including green bike lanes and green bike boxes, and construction of 2.7 miles of Class II buffered bike lanes and 2.4 miles of Class IV separated bikeways. The project also included traffic signal upgrades, including furnishing and installation of adaptive signal systems at 15 signalized intersections, new fiber optic improvements for traffic signal coordination, and installation of Transit Signal Priority (TSP) systems at 21 signalized intersections for Santa Cruz METRO bus transit.
Pedestrian improvements for the Soquel Drive Buffered Bike Lanes Project included construction of approximately 2,500 feet of new sidewalk areas, installation of Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS) at 21 signalized intersections and 11 mid-block pedestrian crossings, enhancements to four mid-block Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) crossings, construction of seven new mid-block RRFB crossings, and upgrades to approximately 96 ADA ramps to current standards.
Project improvements also included adjustments and relocations to City of Santa Cruz Water Department (SCWD) and Soquel Creek Water District (SqCWD) facilities, including meter boxes and water valves, relocation of fire hydrants and air release valves (ARV), installation of a new 12-inch water main, and removal of abandoned cast iron pipe.
BKF provided construction management services during the pre-construction, construction, and project closeout phases of the project.
