BKF was selected to provide comprehensive surveying services for the new SKIMS®LA flagship store in West Hollywood, marking the brand’s first standalone retail location in California. Spanning 4,546 square feet, this high-profile commercial space embodies SKIMS®’ distinctive aesthetic through an innovative architectural design that prioritizes fluidity, minimalism, and organic forms.
BKF’s role in the project was critical from the outset, with responsibilities that included establishing accurate survey control and precise construction layout. This groundwork was essential for the structural reinforcement of the site, particularly for the installation of 27 custom-fabricated strong backs that stabilized the existing north wall during construction.
To meet the structural demands of the space, nearly 40 cubic yards of concrete were poured for new footings and curbs. This foundational effort set the stage for the project’s architectural vision, which featured an extensive use of glass fiber reinforced gypsum (GFRG) to create sweeping curves and organic shapes throughout the interior. Thanks to BKF’s precision in layout and measurement, the design team was able to eliminate nearly all traditional 90-degree angles, resulting in a seamless, sculptural environment that aligns with the SKIMS® brand identity.
From initial site control to final layout, BKF’s surveying expertise ensured that every element of the design was implemented with accuracy and efficiency. The successful completion of the SKIMS® LA flagship store highlights BKF’s ability to support complex, design-forward retail projects and deliver reliable results in fast-paced urban environments.
