Upgrades to existing levees around perimeter, raising them by 1.5 to 3 feet to meet FEMA’s flood protection standards and the projected sea level rise for 2050

Overview

Seaport Centre is a 600,000‑square‑foot business park in Redwood City, located along Redwood Creek and the Port of Redwood City Harbor. Following a reassessment of site conditions, FEMA issued a new flood zone designation that required significant levee upgrades to maintain flood protection for the campus. As the prime civil engineering consultant, BKF led coordination efforts with the City of Redwood City and multiple regulatory agencies while managing a multidisciplinary subconsultant team.

BKF designed comprehensive improvements to the site’s perimeter levee system, raising the existing levees by 1.5 to 3 feet to meet FEMA’s updated standards and anticipated sea‑level rise projections through 2050. The project also included major site infrastructure upgrades, such as 900 linear feet of new 8‑inch sanitary sewer supported by two lift stations; 1,000 linear feet of 36‑ to 60‑inch storm drain improvements with a dedicated lift station; and 2,200 linear feet of cathodic protection for existing 8‑ to 10‑inch water lines. In total, 9,000 linear feet of levee were reconstructed or enhanced, strengthening long‑term flood resilience for the business park.
