As part of the on-call contract, BKF teamed with Gensler Architects and the consultant design team to deliver the following projects:
Federal Inspection Services (FIS) Curbside Improvements Project
In order to meet the increased demand from international passengers who are exiting customs at the FIS facility, this $4.8 million project enclosed 3,000 square feet of exterior curbside area to create an expanded baggage claim and enclosed greeter waiting area. The completed project increased traveler safety and comfort and improved traveler circulation.
New Digital Monument Sign
A new monument sign with a digital feature was constructed at the airport entrance on Coleman Avenue. The newly branded sign supports a “deeper understanding of our community and what we need to to ensure we provide the best possible experience to our passengers and visitors,” said John Aitken, Director of Aviation at SJC.
New Passenger Boarding Gates 20 and 30
New passenger boarding gates were added to allow expanded service. The project involved the relocation of underground utilities, pavement design, and the location of temporary jet bridges to serve until future terminal expansion. BKF provided survey using airport survey control.
Perimeter Security Project
To address security deficiencies, this $10 million project added high-tech video detection and sensor technology using a secure fiber network around the fence perimeter of the entire airport property. BKF provided underground trenching layout, horizontal control for hardware and camera installations, and utility survey information.
