Overview

BKF provided civil engineering services for the San Francisco Federal GSA Building, a 673,000‑square‑foot civic facility at 7th and Mission Streets designed to exemplify modern, sustainable federal architecture. Completed in 2007, the building emphasizes natural daylight, fresh‑air ventilation, and flexible work environments, with open workstations along the perimeter and glass‑walled offices positioned at the core. Shared spaces throughout the facility encourage collaboration among tenant agencies, while amenities such as daycare, fitness centers, cafeterias, a 250‑seat auditorium, and indoor parking support a highly functional workplace environment.

As the civil engineer for site improvements, BKF designed the supporting infrastructure for this LEED Silver–certified federal building, contributing to a project recognized by CoreNet Global for excellence in sustainable public‑sector design. The result is a prominent downtown landmark that integrates energy‑efficient principles with modern federal workplace needs.
