The Rocky Creek Slip Out Emergency Project on Highway 1 near Big Sur was initiated by Caltrans following a March 2024 landslide that damaged a critical section of the coastal highway. The emergency infrastructure project includes slope stabilization measures and construction of a permanent viaduct designed to restore safe, two-way traffic while improving long-term resiliency against coastal erosion and hillside instability along the Highway 1 corridor.
BKF provided construction management services for the Highway 1 emergency repair project, overseeing construction activities, coordinating with project stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications to support efficient project delivery in a complex coastal environment. As a major transportation corridor serving residents, commuters, and tourism throughout the Big Sur region, maintaining reliable access along Highway 1 was essential to regional connectivity, public safety, and economic activity.
