The PG&E Distribution Control Center in Concord was developed to strengthen operational efficiency and reliability for PG&E’s San Francisco Bay Area service territory. This critical facility includes a 35,000-square-foot building, parking areas, and associated site improvements designed to support PG&E’s infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted service delivery to millions of customers by providing real-time oversight of grid operations, coordinating outage response, and supporting system restoration during emergencies. The center also plays a vital role in integrating renewable energy sources and implementing advanced grid technologies to improve resilience and sustainability.
BKF provided comprehensive civil engineering and site planning services that were essential to the success of this project. One of the initial challenges was that the proposed improvements extended beyond the existing parcel boundaries. BKF addressed this by assisting with boundary resolution and preparing a Lot Line Adjustment, enabling the expanded development footprint to comply with property and jurisdictional requirements.
During the review of historical construction documents from a previous project completed in 2003, BKF discovered that no storm drainage system existed on the site. To meet current stormwater regulations and protect the surrounding environment, BKF designed and prepared construction documents for a new public storm drain main along the frontage road. This solution ensured compliance with regulatory standards and provided a sustainable drainage system for the site.
