BKF Engineers provided design services for a 3.6-mile section of the Ohlone Greenway Trail, completed alongside the seismic retrofit of the BART Richmond Line aerial guideways. The Ohlone Greenway runs through Berkeley, Albany, and El Cerrito, serving as a vital active transportation corridor that links neighborhoods, schools, parks, and BART stations.
The project focused on improving safety, accessibility, and long-term sustainability. BKF’s scope included ADA-compliant trail upgrades, curb ramp restoration, and realignment of paths to strengthen bicycle and pedestrian connections. The design also addressed grading and drainage challenges, sensitive creek restoration, and landscaping improvements to create a safer, more resilient corridor.
By integrating seismic retrofit work with active transportation upgrades, the project ensures the Ohlone Greenway continues to provide reliable school routes and regional connections for students, families, and the broader community.
