Established in 1936, Monterey Regional Airport is situated along the scenic Central Coast of California, serving as a vital gateway for both leisure and business travelers. Over the years, the airport has consistently evolved to meet the region’s growing transportation demands. However, the past 25 years posed challenges to the airport with terminal operations due to tight and inefficient spaces within the building, lacking the capacity to meet many of today’s essential aviation regulations. The vision for the Monterey Regional Airport Rehabilitation included a New Airport Terminal Facility, Aircraft Rescue & Fire Facility, and Commercial Apron Design. This involved integrating quality, sustainable materials and selecting finishes that capture the charm and beauty of the Monterey Region, with a specific emphasis on durability and ease of maintenance.
BKF Engineers celebrates its longstanding partnership with Monterey Regional Airport and feels privileged to be involved in these projects. Within this expansive scope of work, BKF Engineers has been contributing its expertise in civil engineering, surveying, and utility locating services. Our team has been handling various design tasks, including site grading, concrete pavement, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, asphalt pavement, storm drainage, and utility connections for the landside of the terminal structures. Recognizing the presence of stormwater, water, and sanitary facilities in the project vicinity, BKF designed connections to integrate seamlessly with these essential utilities. Additionally, our team provided a design and layout for facilities dedicated to treating stormwater runoff from the newly developed areas, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
