BKF served as the Civil Engineer of Record for The Exchange, an urban commercial campus consisting of four interconnected buildings located on Mission Bay’s Block 40. BKF led the design and coordination of all site improvements, including securing encroachment permits and design approvals for non‑standard structural elements situated within Caltrans and Joint Powers Board right‑of‑way.
The 3.5‑acre development features 750,000 square feet of Class A office space and a 262,000‑square‑foot, five‑story integrated parking structure. BKF supported the project’s complex delivery approach, which utilized a phased rough grading permit to allow construction of the multilevel below‑grade garage ahead of the site and utility permits. The campus also includes pedestrian‑oriented urban plazas, pocket parks, green roofs, and rain gardens, providing a highly walkable and sustainable environment that complements Mission Bay’s evolving innovation district.
