Los Alisos Blvd/Muirlands Blvd Intersection Improvements

Overview

BKF supported the City of Lake Forest in delivering safety and capacity upgrades at the intersection of Los Alisos Boulevard and Muirlands Boulevard, a heavily traveled corridor near Los Alisos Intermediate School and El Toro Park.

The project introduced dual left-turn lanes on all legs of the intersection to improve traffic flow and safety. The existing Muirlands Boulevard Bridge was modified by removing sidewalks, upgrading barriers to MASH-compliant standards, restriping lanes, and adding ADA-compliant curb ramps. To maintain multimodal access without widening the bridge, two new pedestrian and bicycle bridges were constructed on each side of Muirlands Boulevard, providing safe passage for students and the community.

Additional improvements included an ADA access path to Los Alisos Intermediate School, new retaining walls, wrought iron fencing, and a water quality infiltration system. BKF also provided right-of-way services for acquisitions and temporary easements, along with 3D renderings to support community outreach. The project enhanced safety, accessibility, and mobility for students, residents, and regional travelers.
