Long Beach Community College Liberal Arts Building

The Multi-disciplinary Facility Replacement (Building M & N) – Liberal Arts Campus project consists of the demolition of the existing buildings in their entirety and replacing them with one new three-story facility, called Building M. The new facility will provide classrooms, computer labs, offices, study rooms, meeting rooms, etc. to support the School of Language Arts, School of Career Technical Education, and Student Support Services Dept.

BKF provided preliminary and final civil engineering design for this milestone project, including site demolition, utility coordination, and pedestrian pathway development. The selected “T” building configuration covers approximately 92,000 SF, with 1.5 acres of site and utility improvements connecting the new facility to the broader campus.

Project features include:

  • First Design-Build community college project in California
  • LEED Gold Certified building
  • Inviting outdoor spaces for student gathering and learning
  • ADA-compliant design
  • Stormwater quality addressed through raised planters, basins, and dry wells
  • Building Placement (+/- 1-ft) constrained by 20-fire lanes on the north and south sides of the building

This project has won the following awards:

  • Los Angeles Business Journal – 2023 Silver Award, Commercial Real Estate Award
