BKF provided preliminary and final design engineering for this design‑build project. The scope of work included demolishing the existing Buildings M and N near the west edge of campus and replacing them with a new 80,000‑square‑foot building. Existing surface improvements within the project limits were also removed, including concrete sidewalks, trees, and landscape areas.
The project became the first design‑build community college project in the State of California. Stormwater quality was addressed through a combination of raised planters, a basin, and dry wells. Building placement, with a tolerance of approximately one foot, was constrained by 20‑foot fire lanes required along the north and south sides of the structure.
