LBCC LAC Building E

Overview

BKF provided civil engineering services for the redevelopment of Long Beach City College Building E, a two-story facility originally constructed in 1968. The project evolved from a planned renovation into a complete replacement, delivering a modern 47,000 SF building. BKF’s scope focused on building perimeter improvements and essential site infrastructure within the project limits, including ADA-compliant parking upgrades, walkway hardscape, wet utility connections, and stormwater quality features.

During the schematic design phase, BKF supported the evaluation of an outdoor food stall or food truck concept, coordinating with the architect and consultants to ensure compatibility with site circulation and utilities. As the design team explored additional features such as plazas, courtyards, and landscape mounding, BKF adjusted scope and fees to align with revised requirements. BKF completed grading, paving, drainage improvements, and Low Impact Development strategies to meet NPDES requirements and campus sustainability goals. The team prepared construction documents, coordinated agency reviews and permit submittals, and provided field support throughout construction to help maintain schedule and budget.

Through responsive collaboration and thoughtful civil design, BKF contributed to a modern campus facility that improves accessibility, enhances daily student movement, and strengthens the overall campus environment for students, faculty, and the surrounding community.
