BKF is involved in the renovation of the LEED Gold-certified historic federal building at 50 UN Plaza in San Francisco. Renovating the 350,00 sq ft. 1936 Federal Building required a sensible approach to upgrade and preserve the historic structure and surrounding amenities. The project included the replacement of aged systems and components to meet current GSA and construction standards, such as seismic retrofit, replacing plumbing and utility services, frontage sidewalk replacement, and interior courtyard landscaping and amenities renovation. The project involved coordinating with outside agencies such as the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA).
