BKF supported Alameda County in delivering the award‑winning Highland Hospital Acute Tower Replacement Project, recognized as the largest construction effort ever undertaken by the County. The project replaced the main hospital within the existing campus through a multi‑phased, design‑build approach. Work included a new 71,000‑square‑foot, three‑story satellite building and a 255,500‑square‑foot, nine‑story acute care tower housing 160 beds. BKF provided new infrastructure design throughout the campus and contributed to the development of a connecting bridge linking the Acute Care Tower to the existing B Wing.
The project also featured a one‑acre courtyard and extensive upgrades to fire water, domestic water, wastewater, storm drain, and gas mains. BKF’s scope included the design of stormwater and wastewater pump stations, as well as demolition and grading to prepare the site for major construction. Together, these improvements modernized the hospital’s infrastructure and supported the County’s long‑term vision for a resilient, state‑of‑the‑art medical facility.
