Genentech B86

BKF Engineers provided full-scope civil engineering services for the Genentech B86 Project – ARE 751 Gateway Building, a state-of-the-art, 230,000-square-foot life sciences facility located in South San Francisco. Designed to be a flexible, future-ready space supporting Genentech’s gRED research initiatives, the seven-story structure reflects a forward-thinking approach to science and sustainability. BKF’s expertise helped shape the site development and architectural planning efforts, ensuring all civil infrastructure aligned seamlessly with the project’s technical and environmental goals.

Our team conducted a comprehensive topographic survey and established a long-term survey control network critical for the project’s design and construction phases. Detailed field reconnaissance and mapping captured existing terrain, visible utilities, and surrounding infrastructure, providing a solid foundation for accurate site modeling and integration. These efforts were essential for minimizing design risks, improving construction efficiency, and facilitating future on-campus developments.

As an all-electric facility, B86 is targeting LEED Gold, WELL, and Fitwel certifications, emphasizing Genentech’s commitment to sustainability and workplace wellness. BKF Engineers maintained proactive coordination with all project stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment that helped anticipate challenges and streamline communication. Our team’s dedication to precision and timely documentation ensured smooth project execution, reinforcing BKF’s reputation as a trusted civil engineering partner in complex life sciences developments.
