BKF served as the civil engineer for the G Street Underpass project in the City of Merced, supporting the development of a critical grade‑separation facility that improves mobility, safety, and rail operations. The team evaluated alternatives to minimize property acquisition impacts and prepared traffic‑handling, staged‑construction, and detour plans to maintain circulation during construction. BKF also designed the storm drain pump station required to operate the underpass, coordinated extensively with BNSF Railway, and managed utility relocations throughout the corridor.
Additional responsibilities included ensuring ADA compliance, supporting community outreach to build consensus, navigating TCIF funding requirements, and providing construction inspection services for the pump station. BKF’s comprehensive involvement contributed to a transportation improvement that enhances reliability and safety for motorists, pedestrians, and rail operations within the City of Merced.
