Located along the Embarcadero, Brooklyn Basin Parcel A2, also known as Foon Lok East, is the eastern portion of a 2.31-acre affordable housing development in Oakland. Foon Lok means “Joyous Community” in Cantonese.
The Brooklyn Basin Parcel A project was developed in two phases, A1 and A2, approximately one year apart. This second phase of development will bring 130 affordable residential units for working families. Brooklyn Basin is a master-planned community along Oakland’s waterfront that will provide over 3,100 new homes for people of all ages, income levels, and walks of life within a vibrant, 64-acre, mixed-use district that includes retail, parks and open spaces. It is the result of a highly collaborative public/private partnership whose vision began over 15 years ago.
Foon Lok East was designed by HKIT Architects. BKF Engineers provided civil engineering and surveying/mapping services for the project. Tasks included coordination with the Architect and the design team to prepare planning submittals (preliminary grading, utilities, earthwork), permit documents for onsite and offsite work (detailed grading, utility laterals, utility capacity study, coordination with existing conditions, erosion control and sediment plan, construction details), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Notice of Intent/Qualified SWPPP Developer (NOI/QSD), City permitting, coordination with Water Efficient Landscape Ordinance (WELO) designs, plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) and dry utility coordination, East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) coordination for water service, Oakland Fire Department approval, coordination with the Master Plan team, bid support, and value engineering coordination.
