Equinix SV4 Data Center

Overview

BKF Engineers provided comprehensive civil engineering and land surveying services for tenant improvements at the Equinix SV4 data center, a 120,000-square-foot facility offering 67,622 square feet of raised floor space for colocation. With access to 8.0 MW of power, SV4 serves as a critical infrastructure component within Equinix’s Silicon Valley portfolio.

BKF supported site modernization efforts focused on accessibility upgrades and civil improvements. To complement interior upgrades, exterior improvements included the redesign of existing accessible parking stalls and the establishment of a compliant path of travel from the building to the public right-of-way on Caspian Drive. Site access improvements were designed in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the California Building Code (CBC).

To support design coordination and permitting, BKF performed a boundary survey based on deed records and field monumentation, along with a detailed topographic survey capturing ADA parking, building entries, landscape features, utilities, and sidewalk grades. These surveys informed the development of a topographic base sheet used throughout the design process.

BKF prepared site plans and construction documents for ADA parking modifications and accessible pathways, including layout and grading adjustments. The civil plan set included existing conditions and demolition plans, horizontal control and grading plans, construction details, and erosion control measures to support compliance and implementation.

Permit submittal support included coordination with the City of Sunnyvale and the design team.  BKF responded to plan check comments and prepared civil-related response letters. Coordination efforts included meetings with city staff to ensure alignment with municipal standards and project goals.  In parallel, BKF developed strategies with the contractor to optimize the limits of work and construction approaches to reduce project costs.

During construction, BKF conducted site visits and provided construction administration services, including review of contractor RFIs and submittals related to the civil scope. This project reflects BKF’s commitment to deliver accurate, code-compliant infrastructure improvements that enhance accessibility and operational performance for mission-critical data center environments.
