As part of a federally funded improvement effort, the City of Sunnyvale selected BKF to provide design and surveying services for pavement rehabilitation and enhancements to pedestrian and bicycle accessibility along Duane Avenue between San Juan Drive and Lawrence Expressway. Following a detailed assessment of existing pavement conditions, BKF evaluated multiple rehabilitation strategies—including hot‑mix asphalt, cold in‑place recycling, and full‑depth reclamation—to determine the most effective treatment approach for the corridor.
The project incorporated new curb ramps, updated drainage systems and manhole construction, utility adjustments, and the resetting of survey monuments. BKF also coordinated with VTA to relocate bus stops and shelters, prepared roadway restriping plans to accommodate new bike lanes, and developed staging and traffic‑handling plans to maintain circulation during construction. Additional services included completing the federal E‑76 funding authorization process to advance the project through delivery.
