BKF is providing comprehensive civil engineering, land use entitlement, and land surveying services for the expansion of the PDX10 data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, located in Oregon’s Silicon Forest. The project will expand an existing operational data center through the construction of an approximately 18,000± square-foot addition, along with associated site and infrastructure improvements designed to enhance facility operations, increase capacity, and support the client’s long-term operational needs.
BKF is supporting the project through all phases, from topographic surveying, schematic design, and entitlement documentation through construction-level drawings and permitting. Early efforts included preparation of a Type II Development Review Application, coordination with City of Hillsboro staff, and the development of schematic site plans and entitlement materials, including a supporting land use narrative.
Civil engineering services include demolition coordination, mass grading, pavement improvements, site utilities, and erosion and sediment control design. Utility services are being extended to the new structure, the emergency vehicle turnaround is being expanded, and fence lines are being relocated to accommodate the new improvements. BKF is also designing the extension of the public storm drainage system to the site and is developing stormwater management strategies for detention and treatment compliant with Clean Water Services R&O 19-22.
A key element of the project is iterative grading design and collaboration with geotechnical partners, which is minimizing the need for structural retaining walls and is resulting in significant construction cost savings while maintaining long-term site performance.
BKF is coordinating with the City of Hillsboro and Clean Water Services to support private utility, grading, erosion control, and site development permits, ensuring the expansion is seamlessly integrated with ongoing data center operations.
