BKF is leading the design of the Bandicoot Basin project for the San Bernardino County Flood Control District (District). This vital infrastructure initiative will enhance regional flood protection and stormwater management, supporting the District’s larger system of more than 3,000 flood control facilities. As part of the District’s long‑term strategy to improve water management and reduce flood risk, BKF is providing comprehensive civil design services for the new basin and associated improvements.
The project advances several critical technical objectives, including detailed sediment‑yield analysis to optimize sediment capture, refined hydrologic modeling to improve stormwater performance, and coordination with the California Division of Safety of Dams to meet regulatory requirements. BKF is executing the design in multiple phases beginning with preliminary engineering and baseline studies, which include evaluating design alternatives, conducting geotechnical investigations, researching utility conflicts and relocation needs, and assessing upstream and downstream drainage systems to ensure seamless system integration.
The Bandicoot Basin effort represents a significant investment in regional resiliency and public safety. Through innovative, sustainable, and data‑driven design solutions, BKF is supporting the District in delivering a modernized flood‑control facility aligned with broader watershed and master‑planning goals.
