BKF provided construction management and inspection services for the Bolinas Wye Wetland Restoration Project. The project supported the County of Marin Parks department’s efforts to restore the historic Lewis Gulch Creek floodplain. It also improved transportation infrastructure and strengthened resilience to flooding and sea level rise. BKF managed construction activities, coordinated with regulatory agencies and utility providers, and maintained compliance with environmental permit requirements.
During construction, the project transformed the Bolinas Wye. Crews realigned Olema Bolinas Road and its intersection with State Route 1. They constructed a new bridge over the restored Lewis Gulch Creek channel. The project also removed a segment of Fairfax Bolinas Road and restored wetlands across the historic floodplain. These improvements reconnected the creek to its natural floodplain. They improved fish and wildlife habitat, increased flood protection, and strengthened resilience to future climate change and sea level rise.
Working closely with the Marin County Parks Department and the Marin County Public Works Department, BKF provided constructability reviews, scheduling, materials testing, source inspection, and CIDH pile integrity testing. BKF also coordinated with the California Wildlife Conservation Board, California State Coastal Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to maintain environmental permit compliance and meet pre-construction requirements. This collaboration helped maintain permit compliance and address utility challenges before they affected construction. The project was completed on schedule and under budget. It now provides lasting environmental and community benefits for Marin County.
