Coresite Santa Clara (SV4) 2972 Stender Data Center

Overview

BKF Engineers provided comprehensive civil engineering and land surveying services for the development of CoreSite’s SV4 data center, part of the expansive Silicon Valley campus that includes SV3 through SV9. Strategically located and tethered via high-count dark fiber to CoreSite’s facilities in San Jose (SV1) and Milpitas (SV2), SV4 offers 103,000 square feet of high-density colocation space, featuring a 10-foot ceiling above a 36-inch raised floor and a hydraulic lift gate to support robust operational needs.

BKF led the transformation of the site through the demolition of existing structures and construction of new data center facilities tailored to CoreSite’s performance and connectivity standards. The redevelopment was designed to meet LEED Gold standards, incorporating energy-efficient infrastructure such as 97% efficient UPS units, VFD cooling systems, and air-side economization.

Our team engineered and laid out new utility systems, including underground fuel storage tanks, electric line routing, domestic and fire water, reclaimed water, and storm drain systems. The utility infrastructure was designed to support the facility’s high-density power and cooling requirements, ensuring reliability and scalability for future growth.

BKF provided environmental and permitting support throughout the project lifecycle, including the preparation of Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), Construction Documents (CD), and Construction Administration (CA). We also delivered detailed surveying and mapping services to support site planning, permitting, and construction coordination.

To facilitate timely approvals and ensure compliance with local development standards, BKF engaged with City Planning and Engineering staff throughout the entitlement process. Circulation and access planning included analysis and design of pedestrian and vehicular systems to optimize site functionality and safety.

Stormwater management and sustainability were key components of the project. BKF conducted C.3 stormwater compliance analysis and designed sustainable drainage features, including rain gardens, to meet Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) standards.

Public infrastructure improvements adjacent to the project site were also designed and coordinated by BKF to support seamless integration with city systems. This project highlights BKF’s expertise in delivering high-performance, utility-intensive infrastructure for mission-critical data center environments in Silicon Valley.
