Cool Port Oakland

Cool Port Oakland is a distribution facility that maximizes the use of the Port of Oakland’s road, rail, and shipping network to increase the import and export of perishable food products. This 280,000 sq. ft. refrigerated transload next-generation facility serves as the northern California anchor for temperature-controlled cargo transitioning through the Port of Oakland. The facility services approximately 9,000 rail cars, translating to 36,000 containers on an annual basis. As a LEED compliant facility, it provides electrical plug-ins for most containers, solar or fuel cell technology for power generations, natural gas power for yard trucks, and the use of natural refrigerants to reduce potential hydrochlorofluorocarbon releases, which can be damaging to the ozone layer. BKF provided civil engineering design and land surveying services for the project.
