The new Center for Liberal Arts was the first new building at the College of Alameda in 25 years, providing a unified identity and dedicated home for the college’s various Liberal Arts Departments. The project included construction of a new two-story, 53,000-square-foot building featuring 15 general classrooms, faculty offices, multiple meeting rooms, a café, and a central lobby and gathering space. Site improvements included perimeter landscape and hardscape enhancements, utility relocations, bioretention facilities to treat roof runoff, and various hardscape and fire access improvements. BKF provided topographic survey services and supported utility relocation and demolition planning, along with rough and fine grading design, utility design, stormwater treatment and erosion control, and utility easement coordination for the project’s new electrical services.
