BKF Engineers provided comprehensive civil engineering, land surveying, and construction support services for site improvements at the Centersquare Silicon Valley SFO2-B Data Center, located in Santa Clara’s Golden Triangle, one of the most densely concentrated tech corridors in the world. The project involved utility infrastructure upgrades, installation of a new mechanical equipment yard, and restoration of parking lot pavement to support the facility’s expansion and operational demands.
The SFO2-B facility spans approximately 100,056 square feet and delivers 43.2MW of utility power, with 100% SLA on power, network, and bandwidth. BKF’s scope included preparing construction documents for permitting with the City of Santa Clara, ensuring compliance with local development standards and coordination with municipal agencies.
A key component of BKF’s work was the design and integration of new utility infrastructure to support the data center’s high-density power and cooling systems. This included comprehensive plans for water, fire protection, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems. BKF’s approach emphasized early engagement with utility providers, detailed mapping of existing infrastructure, and proactive coordination to avoid service disruptions and maintain project timelines. The utility design supported the facility’s concurrently maintainable N+1 power and cooling configuration, enabling uninterrupted operation and optimal environmental control.
To support environmental compliance, BKF developed a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and incorporated best management practices for both construction-phase and post-construction runoff control. C.3 stormwater treatment measures were integrated to meet Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) standards and support long-term sustainability.
Surveying services included targeted field surveys to capture critical spot elevations and surface features, supplemented by utility research and mapping to ensure design accuracy. BKF also provided construction administration services, including site visits, submittal reviews, and responses to RFIs, supporting smooth field execution and coordination with contractors.
BKF’s integrated approach helped deliver a resilient, secure, and high-performance data center aligned with the operational goals of one of Silicon Valley’s premier colocation providers.
