Located in the heart of Berkeley’s Downtown Arts District, the new Center Street Parking Structure replaces the original 1950s garage, which no longer met seismic standards or parking demand. The modern facility introduces an eight‑level, 720‑space garage, adding 300 additional parking stalls, along with integrated retail space, an art gallery, a sidewalk café, bicycle parking, public restrooms, and offices that support downtown activity and access to nearby theaters, businesses, and the Civic Center.
The 248,000‑square‑foot garage features valet parking for up to 350 bicycles, electric vehicle charging stations, and a comprehensive stormwater management system that includes rainwater‑runoff bioswales and a 7,500‑gallon cistern for rainwater harvesting. Together, these elements contribute to a highly functional, accessible, and environmentally responsible parking destination that supports the City of Berkeley’s long‑term mobility and sustainability goals.
