BKF partnered with the BART Earthquake Safety Program to upgrade seismically vulnerable portions of the original BART system, delivering improvements that strengthen system resilience and enhance public safety. The project encompassed 10.6 miles of seismic retrofits along the R Line segment, including work on the aerial guideway’s 371 piers and abutments, as well as three vehicular and pedestrian undercrossing bridges. BKF also provided design integration at three BART substations and five parking structures. In addition to the seismic upgrades, the team supported roadway and drainage improvements and enhancements to pedestrian and bicycle paths, ensuring that the surrounding infrastructure met modern safety and accessibility standards.
