BKF supported San Mateo County in improving safety at the Alpine Road and Highway 280 interchange in response to community concerns about recent bicycle‑related accidents. The project introduced an innovative bicycle‑buffered lane, the first of its kind implemented within Caltrans’ right‑of‑way, to enhance protection for cyclists traveling along this heavily used corridor. The effort required meeting a critical grant‑funding schedule, incorporating distinctive green pavement treatments, and designing buffered bike lanes that significantly improve safety and mobility for all users.
