Overview

Since 1998, BKF has served as the civil engineer and surveyor for the joint City and Catellus effort to redevelop 215 acres of the former Navy Fleet Industrial Supply Center Alameda and East Housing. This long‑term, multi‑phase transformation has converted the former naval property into a vibrant urban mixed‑use district featuring residential neighborhoods, retail destinations, office space, and extensive waterfront amenities.

The redevelopment includes a 600‑student school, an 18‑acre waterfront park, 400,000 square feet of waterfront office space, and a 300,000‑square‑foot pedestrian‑oriented retail district anchored by a major shopping destination and connected by a public promenade. More than 800 single‑family and multi‑family residential units create a diverse housing mix, supported by comprehensive backbone infrastructure delivered across more than 20 phased improvement programs.

BKF’s work has also encompassed significant remediation, demolition, and deconstruction efforts, delivered in six phases to safely prepare the site for redevelopment. Through decades of continuous involvement, BKF has helped reshape this historic naval property into a thriving, sustainable waterfront community.
