The LEED Platinum certified building is one of the most sustainable state office buildings to house elected officials in the country, and features low water use fixtures, a high-performance building façade, materials with high recycled content, daylighting within office suites, native vegetation on the surrounding site and terraces, as well as LED lighting throughout.

Overview

This award‑winning building is home to California’s legislative and executive elected officials, including the Governor and associated staff, who have temporarily relocated here until the new Capitol Annex project is completed. Once those relocations are complete, the building will continue to serve as office space for both legislative and executive employees. The 10‑story, 472,600‑square‑foot facility incorporates committee hearing rooms, caucus and general meeting spaces, legislative and executive offices, and integrated parking, creating a highly functional and efficient workplace environment.

Designed to achieve the highest levels of sustainability, the building is LEED Platinum certified and is recognized as one of the most sustainable state office buildings in the country to house elected officials. Its features include low‑water‑use fixtures, a high‑performance façade, materials with high recycled content, extensive daylighting throughout office suites, native vegetation across the site and terraces, and energy‑efficient LED lighting. As a fully electric building, 1021 O Street is also Zero Net Carbon, further advancing California’s leadership in green building standards.

The building achieves Zero Net Energy through extensive efficiency measures paired with offsite renewable power generation delivered through a historic agreement with SMUD. At its core, or “heart,” the building features double‑height great rooms with open, interconnecting stairs that create inviting gathering spaces for social interaction, collaboration, and movement between floors. Adjacent roof terraces offer views of Sacramento’s urban tree canopy and the nearby State Capitol, enhancing both occupant comfort and connection to the surrounding city.
