I Am a Local Office Lead

Rachel Carr is many things—a Survey Operations Manager, a Local Office Lead, a world traveler, a dedicated aunt, and a proud dog mom. She was hired as a project assistant in 2018, where she quickly proved her ability to adapt and lead with the help of strong BKF leadership. With a background in Communication Studies, Rachel leveraged her strengths in organization and interpersonal connection to rise through the ranks and ultimately take on her current role overseeing all survey operations. Rachel also serves as local office leader in BKF’s Modesto office.

Her workday is a blend of strategy and support. Rachel partners closely with project managers and survey leadership to ensure financial goals are met, backlog projections stay current, and operations run smoothly. She’s often described her position as both proactive and reactive—full of metrics, meetings, and spreadsheets—but equally about people, mentorship, and communication.

Rachel is a strong advocate for BKF’s growth and provides support by guiding teams through changes in process and policy. Rachel meets challenges with empathy and a personalized approach. Whether it’s a Zoom call, a phone chat, or walking into someone’s office, she knows that the best results come from understanding how each person works best.

Outside the office, Rachel lives a life full of movement and discovery. She’s an avid explorer, whether trekking through Yosemite, wandering city streets, or capturing landscapes through her camera. She’s committed to her fitness routine—often working out before sunrise—and when she’s not on a trail or at the gym, she’s spending time with her nieces, reading psychological thrillers, or planning her next international adventure. Recent stamps in her passport include Iceland, Ireland, Thailand, and Italy.

Mental health is also important to Rachel—so much so that she earned a master’s degree in clinical counseling. She brings that mindfulness into her leadership, encouraging others to take walks, step away from their desks, and find moments of balance throughout the day.

As Modesto’s local office lead, Rachel focuses on cultivating an inclusive and connected culture. Whether she’s organizing pirate-themed murder mystery train rides, hosting golf outings, or helping staff feel seen and supported, she’s making a difference—one event and one conversation at a time. A big part of that is the photo board in their office kitchen, a visual snapshot of the camaraderie she helps foster. Rachel credits her growth at BKF to the opportunities given by the leadership on our survey team and the continued collaboration with the project assistant staff. Beyond BKF, she’s grateful to the junior college speech and debate coach who once showed her she was capable of more than she imagined.
