I Am the President and CEO of BKF.

Guided by curiosity, integrity, and a belief in the impact of community-focused work, Greg Hurd has built a career defined by leadership and service. From his early interest in construction and engineering to his current role as CEO, he has remained committed to problem-solving, collaboration, and supporting the success of others. These values continue to influence how he supports BKF’s people and shapes the long-term direction of the firm.

Raised in Petaluma, Greg grew up surrounded by construction, equipment, and the kind of hands-on problem solving that naturally steered him toward engineering. His mother recognized his curiosity early on and encouraged him to pursue a field where those interests could grow into a meaningful career.

After earning his civil engineering technology degree from the University of Silicon Valley, formerly known as Cogswell Polytechnical College, Greg began at Caltrans in downtown San Francisco. This early experience gave him direct exposure to the inner workings of major public infrastructure projects. It also laid the foundation for nearly four decades of work in civil engineering and land surveying. Throughout his career, Greg has focused on solving complex challenges and creating projects that strengthen local communities.

After 22 years at an engineering and land surveying firm in Santa Rosa, Greg joined BKF in 2009 and has been a key part of the firm’s evolution and long-term success. Since that time, he has led strategic initiatives that shape BKF’s vision, culture, and future. He mentors emerging leaders, supports innovation, and helps guide teams in delivering impactful solutions for clients.

“Our people and our culture are the heart of BKF, and I am continually inspired by their commitment to our clients, our communities, and to one another; when employees feel supported, trusted, and connected, they bring forward their best ideas, and my goal is to help them grow, build confidence, and feel proud of the meaningful impact they create,” says Greg.

In 2020, Greg became the fifth President and CEO in BKF’s history. He describes the role as both meaningful and humbling.

“It is an honor to lead an organization of such creative, dedicated, and talented professionals,” he shares.

Outside the office, Greg enjoys spending time with his wife, fishing, cheering on all the San Francisco Bay Area sports teams, following college football, time at the beach, traveling, and exploring new wines (and bourbons!) from different regions. He approaches each of these interests, and more, with the same curiosity and enthusiasm that has shaped his career.

As the final feature in our I Am Campaign, Greg’s story brings the series full circle. It highlights the people, experiences, and values that define BKF. His journey reflects the heart of who we are: committed professionals working together to build stronger, safer, and more connected communities.
