BKF is pleased to welcome Heidi Nelkie as Vice President of Business Development, Infrastructure Solutions.
In this role, Heidi will focus on strengthening client relationships and supporting strategic growth for BKF’s Infrastructure Solutions Division.
Heidi joins BKF at a pivotal time for the firm. Over the past year, BKF has grown to more than 850 professionals across 20 offices and expanded its capabilities through a merger with MNS Engineers and partnership with Lotus Water. As clients face increasingly complex infrastructure challenges, BKF continues to invest in the expertise, partnerships, and leadership needed to deliver integrated solutions across the region. Heidi’s addition reflects that commitment. Her ability to connect strategy, collaboration, and project delivery will help BKF clients navigate growth, resilience, and infrastructure investment.
Heidi’s career began in the field with collecting water samples in the Port of San Francisco, Heidi has built a more than 25-year career spanning environmental sciences, transportation, resilience, and organizational leadership, later advancing into construction management and program management roles supporting projects for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, and BART.
Her technical background and deep understanding of how public-sector operations have allowed her to successfully partner with public agencies, transportation providers, technical teams, elected officials, and community stakeholders to advance complex initiatives and deliver meaningful outcomes. This is demonstrated by her work on some of the nation’s most significant infrastructure programs, including the 16-mile BART Silicon Valley Extension and the Federal Railroad Administration’s Transportation Technology Center modernization program. She has helped oversee billions of dollars in infrastructure investments, including major transit expansions and more than $300 million in concurrent engineering and construction projects.
Heidi holds a Master of Science in Emergency Management from Anna Maria College and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Soil Science from Michigan State University. She is an active industry leader and mentor, serving with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and WTS to support the advancement of the transportation profession and develop future industry leaders.
