Gorman & Company sparks an initiative on energy-efficient affordable housing, with BKF delivering innovative engineering solutions for sustainable living. The Jade apartments, located at 2829, 2845, and 2905 SE 89th Avenue in Portland, Oregon, will offer 40 units of affordable housing. This groundbreaking project is the result of a unique collaboration between the non-profit Asian Pacific Network of Oregon (APANO) and Gorman & Company, with SERA Architecture and Design serving as the Architect of Record for the Jade Project. In addition to this, BKF has also secured the Clara Vista Redevelopment project at 5300 NE Cully Boulevard and 6911 NE Emerson Street in Portland, Oregon, to provide Civil Engineering Services, partnered with Hacienda Community Development Corporation (CDC). The Clara Vista project will construct three new affordable housing buildings that will consist of 108 units, replacing the existing affordable units at a 1:1 ratio. The project site is approximately 3.89 acres and will be constructed in stages to limit the disturbance to existing residents. Residents will be able to move into the new units as they are constructed so they won’t need to find intermediate housing. The new buildings and all associated site improvements will be constructed on approximately 1.5 acres of the overall site, leaving the remainder of the site as vacant land for future development. Both projects include public right-of-way improvements, including new sidewalks by BKF Engineers.
